Where to stay in Bangkok – Thailand – The Shangri-La Bangkok Hotel

Amazing Thailand…  yes, I was told and it was true! And I’m glad that I chose the right place to stay in Bangkok to start my solo adventure in the city. The Shangri-La Hotel is situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, less than 5 minutes walking to the metro station, in the heart of Bangkok. I only had three days in the city so choosing the right location is always essential to make the best of my time in a new place.

And since Bangkok was one of the last stops, I’m thankful Shangri-la was a part of it, with so many amenities (including two  gorgeous swimming pool!) and service, it has now a special place in my heart! If you are planning a trip to Bangkok, make sure to check the Shangri-La website (HERE) and follow them on Instagram (HERE) for more amazing Bangkok pictures, news and updates on the hotel!

Location

Like I said, Saphan Taksin skytrain station is less than 5 minutes away and from the hotel you can also take a boat (long-tail boat tour or Chao Phraya Express “taxi service”) and do some sightseeing, stopping by the most important temples in the city and other neighborhoods. You can also get to the airport in about 30 minutes.  If you feel like walking to places, you can always go out and  explore the neighborhood around the hotel to get more authentic Thai experiences dining in restaurants or checking out some local shops.

My room

This was the highlight of my trip! Their guestrooms either have dramatic river views or sweeping of the city.  I couldn’t  help but take a picture every time I looked outside my window! The river is so beautiful and this view is just breathtaking!

And the room had everything I could possibly think of:  24-hour satellite TV, in-house movies, three telephones, computer data port, voice mail, bedside control panel, radio, coffee/tea-making facility, alarm clock, electronic safe, fully stocked mini-bar, individual room climate control, hair dryer, marble bathroom and 24-hour room service.  Wi-Fi access, digital cabling, ample power points, complimentary broadband Internet access, television, DVD players and computer-to-TV connectivity. Yep! Don’t let me get started on the bed… So so so comfy! I really felt like canceling everything on my agenda and staying there all day!

The Swimming Pool

Well, this deserved a dedicated part on this post because the heat is real people and I was counting the seconds to go swimming the minute I spotted the pool through my room’s window. The pool is gorgeous, life guards are on duty to keep everyone safe and they offer water and beach towels as well. You can also order drinks  and I believe some snacks. The pool faces the river so you can enjoy the view as well.

The hotel:

The hotel has everything you can think of and they will go out of their way to accommodate our needs, always with a smile and making us feel very welcome! Spa, fitness center, 9 different restaurants and cafes – including the nightly dinner cruises on the exclusive Horizon, a luxury, two-deck boat with attractively appointed dining facilities. Seriously, can it get any better than this? On top of that they also have 24-hour concierge assistance and room service, dry cleaning, laundry, pressing, valet parking, and chauffeur driven limousine are available.  In-hotel travel agent, Shangri-La Gifts, beauty parlor, tailor, and jewelry shop.  Currency exchange available at reception. Doctor and nurse on call 24 hours everyday.

Traditional Thai Restaurant

If you are looking for a traditional Thai restaurant, the Salathip is the way to go! Delicious food with beautiful entertainment! Make a reservation, especially if you are traveling with a special someone. The restaurant is the perfect way to end the day with gorgeous river views with an intimate atmosphere. And the architecture, oh my, it is so beautiful that you can’t help but at least stop for pictures! We sampled a variety of dishes and I couldn’t get enough of the mango sticky rice so I ordered another round beforeI went  back to my room!

The river and breakfast with a view

The location of the Shangri-la Hotel couldn’t be more perfect. Watching the sunset from the hotel’s deck was beautiful! And the same goes for having breakfast with the same view! Speaking of breakfast, what a treat that was! Their buffet is impeccable, with countless options including multiple international cuisines. If you prefer  western style, an infinity of breads, pastries, fruits, omelets and beverages are waiting for you!

When I go back to Bangkok I can’t wait to stay at the Shangri-La Hotel again. They were incredible and the hotel reflects the true Thai hospitality in every sense! Thank you for a lovely and unforgettable stay! And if you are headed to Bangkok, make sure to check their website HERE for more info, rooms and rates!
