NYC Weekend getaway? Here are 7 reasons to visit Atlantic City
Some of you asked me on instagram if it was worth visiting the famous beach town in the winter so after another weekend in Atlantic City (in less than a year!), my answer to you is: YES! So I thought it was about time I shared some of the best things about one of New Jerseys not-hidden gems! I know the beach in the summer is one of the highlights of Atlantic City but seriously, there is so much more to it! So here are 5 reasons you should visit Atlantic City! 1- To relax
Ok, one of the reasons I love going to Atlantic City in the winter is to simply relax. New York City can drain my energy some times so taking two days off to recharge is very important to me. My tip is to search for hotels that offer amenities such as heated pool, jacuzzi and spas, if you are into massages and other face and body treatments. And if you are not a huge fan of casinos or going going through the casino for everything, I highly recommend staying at the Ocean Casino Resort, for sure one of the best hotels in Atlantic City. I was invited to stay at the hotel and I’m so glad I went. It was the perfect balance: it has that modern vibe I love, it is quiet (the casino entrance is located on a different floor so you don’t have to go through it every time you leave and come back to the hotel), it is fun and offers all the amenities we needed PLUS, the best bed and pillows I’ve slept on! Highly recommend it! I saved everything on my instagram highlights, check it out at @marthasachser) and say hello! I love to connect!
2- Restaurants
Yes, most casino resorts offer great dining options for all budgets and tastes but the city itself also has much more to offer and strolling around some areas of town you will encounter gems such as Knife and Fork, a classic that can’t be missed. I loved how accommodating they were when I said I was vegan, truly recommend it! Here is a picture of some of my delicious dishes and some exterior and interior shots by photographer Peter Tobia.
3- Casinos
I’m not into gambling BUT I love the atmosphere and walking around the casinos in Atlantic City! They are usually surrounded by restaurants, shops and even night clubs so it is a great option for groups with different or similar interests to hang out and have fun at the same place.
4- Entertainment
Besides all the live music you can find inside the hotels/casinos, there are several amazing concerts throughout the year in AC! For instance, on my last trip I was able to see Celine Dion and yes… it was EVERYTHING! So if you wanna make the most out of your trip, I recommend checking if your favorite artists are on tour and if they will be performing in Atlantic City. Chances are you can simply walk to your hotel to the venue and skip the parking and traffic nightmare common in other big cities.
5- The beach and the boardwalk
I always knew there are countless beaches in New Jersey but locals told me that AC is special and therefore can’t be missed! Well, I had to see it for myself so last year we spent a weekend in AC in the summer and we loved it! No only the beach was great but the boardwalk makes it for the perfect family vacation where parents and kids can also enjoy the fun rides (including the iconic ferris wheel) and eat some delicious treats and dine at great restaurants! Plus, you can go in and out different hotels and casinos from there, super convenient! If you are in the beach and party mode there were a few bars playing music outside so you can do that too and dance/drink on the sand!
6- Night Life
If you are in the mood, there are great night clubs and since they are usually inside the hotels it is easy to find parking and even grab a bite to eat before or after!
7- Shopping
It is true you will find shops inside the hotels but Atlantic City also has its own outlet! Tanger Outlets in AC is an open shopping experience where you will find stores like Adidas, Abercrombie, Banana Republic, bath & Body Works, Coach, Calvin Klein and many others!
