How to go from JFK Airport to Manhattan?

By public transportation:
AirTrain + Subway:
Once you are done with immigration and are exiting, follow the signs for Air Train. Simply take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and take one of the subway lines towards Manhattan. If you are staying in Midtown, you will most likely take the E train.
The Air Train costs U$5 (you can pay when you exit) and the subway metro card costs U$2.75+ U$1 for the card – you can keep it and add money if you need again, you don’t need to pay for another card. If you are going to the airport, you pay for the Air Train before you board, there are machines on both sides.
AirTrain + LIRR
If your final destination is in other parts of Queens where the E train doesn’t cover, you might need to transfer at some point to connect to other subway lines OR maybe the LIRR works for you. It is also a good option if you want a more comfortable trip to the city. In this case you can take the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) towards Manhattan/Penn Station as well or get off wherever your destination is. Buy the tickets BEFORE you board. Prices range from U$7.50-10.25.
Important:
International Cards are accepted and the machine might ask for you zip code. Simply type 99999 and it will understand you have an international credit card. If paying in cash, the maximum amount for change is U$9.
Shared shuttle
Here are some other options to get into the city by bus or van.

If you wanna save time, I recommend getting CityPASS to skip ticket lines and save money on the main attractions. There are also other passes available that include way more attractions and tours such as FLEX Sightseeing PASS, NYC Explorer PASS and the New York PASS, which are some of the favorites.
BY TAXI
There is a flat rate to go to Manhattan of U$52. This amount excludes taxes, fees and tip (18-20%). There might also be other small fees (during rush hour for example: U$4.50). If you need a cab, follow the signs, you will find them lined outside, for your own safety avoid taking offers from unauthorized people/drivers.
