QUICK WEEKEND GETAWAY: ESCAPING TO FOXWOODS!
I love New York, but I can always use a quick getaway to escape the craziness and fast pace of the city to disconnect and recharge for the coming week. And how lucky am I to have done just that in the largest casino resort in North America? YES! I was invited to experience Foxwoods and all its wonders which include: casinos, 35+ restaurants/bars, bowling, renowned spas, award-winning golf, state-of-the-art theaters, beautiful swimming pools, live music, entertainment, adventures such as a thrill tower, Monza world class karting, world class zipline, and much more!
Speaking of pool, our room had a beautiful view to the evergreen forest that surrounds the resort. It was kind of dreamy to wake up to it every morning! They have both indoor and outdoor swimming pools with plenty of chairs to sit and enjoy the day! So relaxing!
Our room:
We stayed on the 18th floor, and our room was pretty neat, it had everything we needed – and the shower was just perfect. You know when you feel like all you need is a hot and relaxing shower? That was it. I know its silly but the right pressure and temperature can do wonders for you! And I’m glad I got to relax and experience that. It’s kind of a bummer when you’re staying at awesome places but showers are just okay. The one in our room was on point!
Tanger Outlet:
Yes, you heard it right, there is an outlet with over 80 stores inside the resort. I know. You can be sure to bring the entire family there and everyone will be happy! I was able to grab a nice olive trench coat from Banana Republic (originally priced at $139) and a denim jacket from GAP (original price $60) and got both for under U$100 with all the coupons and outlet discounts! Hooray!
Casinos
I’m not into gambling but I can’t miss a chance to try my luck (to reaffirm how unlucky I am when it comes to gambling – but hey, can’t complain when all I invested was $5, right?) and at least take some cool photos! I loved that they had at least one smoke-free casino and that some casinos had night life entertainment right there, in the middle of it all. It was super fun to watch people dancing, singing and having a great time! Can’t wait to go back with my girl friends!!
Yeah, I really took the cool photos seriously! This is me thinking of how I will be spending all my money from gambling…. Well, we know how it ended! I highly recommend you checking out Foxwoods instagram account (@foxwoods) to see all the really lucky winners! I don’t even know what to do with all that money!
There are six casinos and this one was right by our hotel lobby at Fox Tower. So we stayed up late without worrying cuz the elevator was right there, very convenient! Below you will see the rainmaker casino, a smoke-free one and near great restaurants.
So yeah, remember the view I mentioned before? So this is it. Still can’t believe I got to wake up to this view every day, early in the morning it was kind of gloomy, which makes you feel like you’re in a completely different place and then out of a sudden, the sun is out and this is what you see! Can you imagine this place in the fall??
Fun, fun, fun!
Well, I passed the opportunity of riding the thrill tower and the zipline but still had lots of fun exploring all the photo ops and racing my mom at Monza, the go-kart attraction at the resort. We were the last ones in line and had the whole place to ourselves, it was FUN! The staff was extremely nice and my mom had the best time! I was a bit worried since it was her first time racing and driving in nearly 10 years but she loved it, there is a safety video you must watch before racing and they have the safety equipments – all very well cleaned by the way!
Restaurants:
Everyday we had a challenge: choose where to eat! There are so many options that I could spend a month there and still wouldn’t be able to see everything! My tip for you? Do some research before and ask the staff for the hotel’s “guide/newsletter” which features everything that is happening that week, it has a list of all the restaurants and you can easily see the ones you are more interested in. One thing I thought was really worth mentioning here is the price. There is something for every budget and for me, all of our options were great!
On the first night we went to Hard Rock Cafe, it was open late and right by where we were walking when exploring the territory. As usual everything was good and our server was super nice. The next morning for breakfast we ended up choosing the Festival Buffet, I’m vegan so buffets are a great place for me, there are usually more options available. It was $12.50/person for breakfast and about U$20/person for lunch. There were many food stations including international cuisine such as: Chinese, Italian, American besides seafood and much more…
We chose to have breakfast Verandas on the next day and it was $15 per person. They also serve a buffet, smaller than Festival’s but with everything we liked. The restaurant is beautiful and bright and even though the atmosphere might seem a little fancier it is still very casual. The view is beautiful (ask for a table by the window!) and that was what made us go in the first place. For dinner we checked out Scorpion Bar, a upscale casual Mexican restaurant/bar that turns into a night club every Friday, Saturday and Sunday after 10:30PM. It’s right by the casino area, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds! To get in (for the night club) is U$10/person and girls don’t pay on Friday nights. But double check online to see if this rule will apply when you’re there. We had guacamole and chips (my favorite), steak fajitas (for my mom) and a veggie burrito (for me). Love the decor and if you want outdoor seating, there is a door to the restaurant’s balcony in the back.
My stay at the Fox Tower at Foxwoods was amazing and I can’t wait to return sometime in the fall with my family! If you wanna see more, make sure to check their website HERE. The hotel is located at 350 Trolley Line Boulevard, Mashantucket, CT 06338-3777. And the easiest ways to get there are by train, bus or of course, driving yourself. Learn more HERE!
