7 Vegan-Friendly Restaurants and Bakeshops in NYC!
If you follow me on instagram you know that most of the time when I’m out and about I tend to eat only at vegan places (click here and here to check some of my favorites ones in the city!). But some times in life I needed to find a good place that serves “regular” food (for my non-vegan friends and relatives) but that would also acommodate my “vegan needs”. So for this post I selected 7 of my favorite spots in New York where I can enjoy some delicious vegan food (which I know is as great as any other food) and whoever is with me can have their “regular food” as well. I’m always looking for new places so if you have more suggestions, please let me know in the comments below and I’ll try to check them out asap! To see more of my adventures in the city, just follow me on instagram @marthasachser and @blognyandabout! Enjoy!
This place was love at first sight! Galeria offers a variety of organic and fresh dishes and many vegan options, including their famous bowls, sandwichs, salads, açai and more. For more vegan paradise, check their website and menu HERE! Their meny also changes constanly according to the season, so there is always something new to try! They also offer a great selection of wines, beers, good music and easygoing atmosphere in one of NYC’s most vibrant areas, the Lower East Side. Galeria is the perfect spot for a casual happy hour with friends and great food. The restaurant is located at 43 Clinton St, New York.
If you are looking for a really nice experience, this is the place to go. Not only the view was breathtaking but the service and the food were just perfect. Even though their vegan options weren’t on the menu, they were able to offer me a few vegan dishes that made my experience so much better! I had a delicious rice noodle dish made especially for me, a fresh chia pudding and a tropical fruit sorbet, to die for! They are used to vegan customers and do their best to acommodate special requests, but make sure to ask about their options when you call to make a reservation! Asiate is located inside the Mandarin Oriental, on the 35th floor of the hotel. Read more about my experience at Asiate here! The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is located at: 80 Columbus Circle at 60th Street, New York
Sweet and savory crepioca (a Brazilian tapioca gluten-free type of crêpe), açaí bowls, cheese breads, sandwiches and delicious salads can be found at OCA, a hidden gem in SoHo and one of my favorite spots in the city. Another reason to love OCA? All their ingredients are organic and gluten free and their menu has plenty of vegan options, including the popular caldinho de feijão, salads, sweet tapiocas, cashew nut milk shakes and more (check their awesome menu HERE!)! Ah! If you mention you follow the blog, you get 15% off your order! How awesome is that?! OCA is located at 250 Mott Street, New York.
Cafe Frida is a traditional Mexican restaurant located in the Upper West Side. They recently veganized their menu, which means, they kept the original one but added vegan options, using only ingredients free of animal products. And the menu goes beyond the usual guacamole and nachos (which by the way was the-best-guacamole-I’ve-ever-had-in-NYC!), they also serve tacos, quesadillas, mexican grilled corn and even queso fundido! Their fish and chicken vegan tacos were soooo delicious! For dessert we had the raspberry sorbet, which is naturally dairy free and oh, so good! The atmosphere inside Cafe Frida was just perfect, the place was filled with laughs and mexican hospitality and good music! Read more about my experience HERE! For more information, click HERE to see their menu. Cafe Frida is located at 368 Columbus Avenue, New York, NY!
Little Cupcake Bakeshop
This cute cupcake shop in SoHo is the perfect stop for all your sugar cravings! They serve brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, croisants, cakes, pies, cupcakes and some yummie beverages. But if you are vegan like me, don’t worry, they have some options that will make you smile from ear to ear: a variety of cookies, muffins and delicious cupcakes. I’m a happy kid when I’m there and can only hope for more items to be added soon! They also have gluten free options! The Little Cupcake Bakeshop is located at 30 Prince St, New York. For more info check their website and menu HERE!

Sons of Essex
NY style brunch with a twist! Yes, I mean mimosas, good music, DJ, dance floor, dimmed light and cool decor. Plus awesome food! Vegan? No worries, you won’t be eating just fries ( but you will want them though!). When I was there they offered me those vegan sliders that were sooooo good, plus a quinoa cauliflower dish and well, ok, fries. They also have great drinks and you will be surprised how you can turn a Saturday lazy afternoon into a Friday night in a second! Make sure to call before you go to make reservations. The Sons of Essex is located at 133 Essex St New York, NY 10002!
Alice’s Tea Cup
This is my favorite place in the city for a perfect afternoon tea! Alice’s Tea Cup is the place to go for pastries, an impressive variety of teas and a fairy tale atmosphere! They added some vegan items on their menu which includes a vegan scone of the day and they also offer brownies and other vegan pastries when possible. In the sandwich category, try their homemade hummus sandwich and Cucumber and Watercress sandwich (without the lemon chive butter). They also have homemade fries! There are three locations in NYC, this one in the images below is the Chapter II, located at 156 E 64th St, New York. For other locations and more info, check their website HERE!
