One of my favorite things to do is to discover new restaurants and bars in NY and share my experience with you! And when the place is perfect for a fun happy hour but it’s cozy enough for a special date, you can’t go wrong with it! So yes, this week Ryu and I went to The Wren, an upscale rustic bar and restaurant located in the East Village, one of my favorite parts of the city. We had such a great time that I couldn’t help myself but share everything with you.

Can we begin by saying how cozy the place is? The lights hanging form the ceiling, the rustic decor… It’s a perfect mix of an Irish pub with the cool vibe of the Village, if this makes any sense to you! I liked how it’s young and fresh but at the same time it has this fancy – yet rustic – decoration and atmosphere. You have to see for yourslef because I’m clearly really bad at describing places. Ah! And the music… great selection and perfect volume level! YES, I pay attention to this wherever I go, it bothers me a lot when I wanna go hang out with friends at a bar and the music is so loud that I have to spend most of the evening yelling or the volume is so low that I have to be aware of what we’ll be talking about.

The prices were okay, not super cheap but not overpriced, it fits the restaurant’s style. One of the best things about The Wren is their craft cocktails ($13), beers and other drinks selection. I had the virgin hot cider and Ryu had the regular, both got our seal of approval! For dinner we had the Wren burger with fries ($18), traditional fish and chips ($19) and shishito peppers ($9), which were surprisingly good, I’m not a fan of peppers but gave this a go, so if you are a fan of peppers, go for it. All appetizers were $9-14 each, which is okay for me. We also had their famous churros with caramel sauce, the only dessert item on the menu and they were sooo good – according to Ryu. We really enjoyed our experience, food was good, service was good and the place was perfect for a casual dinner date or to catch up and have fun with friends and I can’t wait to be back! We were there on a Monday and it was quite busy (it’s New York after all!), I’m excited to go on a weekend next time! They also offer brunch (Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30AM to 4:00PM). No reservations. The Wren is located at 344 Bowery, New York, NY.
