5 Places to Visit and Escape the High Dollar

Hello guys! I’m Angie, the travel blogger behind Apure Guria. Martha invited me to join the blog and share tips about my latest trips around the world. On this post I will name a few places I have visited and I highly recommend if you wanna escape the high dollar season ! These are great and cheaper destinations that will leave you speechless. Bon voyage!

Argentina

Our neighbor Argentina has a lot to offer! Wonderful landscapes, desert climate in the north to Patagonia and mountains in the south, delicious food and excellent wines. And good news? Everything is sooo cheap! You can buy a lot of alfajor and bring souvenirs to all your friends without breaking your banck account.  The first photo is the swimming pool  at this hostel we stayed at which by the way costed me only 25 reais (U$6.25) to sleep in a room with 3 friends and air conditioning! Can’t top that!

Tip: do not forget to visit the Argentine side of the Iguaçu Falls, it’s beautiful!

Peru

Peru is another great country for those who like history, adventure and llamas !!! I just loved Peru,  I went to Machu Picchu, the mountains, beautiful beaches, glaciers and deserts in only 20 days! Surely a country that I wanna go back! Hotel accomodations and food were pretty cheap so were the daily tours in the Cusco region (R$25 – U$ 6.25- including a tour guide).

Tip: Machu Picchu is one of the most expensive options to visit, the ticket and the train ride there is quite expensive (around R$600 – U$150!)! However, you can be adventurous and take a van, facing a full 7 hour trip by precipices plus a 2h walk! But what’s life without some adventure, right?

Uruguai

Did you know that Punta del Este is one of the trendiest resorts in the world? Many celebrities spend their vacations in some of the most popular beaches in Uruguay, such as Antonio Banderas, Fergie, Pablo Neruda, Naomi Campbell and even the British royal family! The capital Montevideo is absurdly beautiful with many attractions, museums and bars. Also take some extra time and visit Colonia del Sacramento, the oldest city in the country and super charming!

Tip: If you want to visit Buenos Aires, take the ferry to Colonia and cross the river to Argentina!

Tailândia

The airplane ticket to Thailan might sound expensive, but I guarantee, overall it is much cheaper than going to Europe! Hostels and hotels have attractive prices, as well as food in general, specially on the street and in certain restaurants (in Bangkok I spent $ 10 to sleep and $2 with dinner) and nothing can compare to the beautiful beaches and the rich culture of Thailand! Several day trips to the islands in Krabi region cost around $ 12 (guide, transportation, lunch and water) and  you HAVE to go, it’s amazing!
Tip: Bangkok, capital of Thailand, has numerous shopping centers, one next to each other! The town is GREAT for shopping!

Bali – Indonésia

Certainly the most visited destination in Indonesia, Bali is full of great activities and wonderful places to visit. This island has many beautiful temples and exotic places… Here you can also stay with little money and eat very well, thank you!  And of course, you don’t need much more when you face their incredible beaches! Ah, you can also learn how to surf when you’re there!

Tip: A lot of people are going to Bali for yoga and other “zen” activities. There are specific places used exclusively for that, do some research before you go!

I hope you enjoyed this selection of countries to escape the high dollar! Don’t get stuck in travel clichés, there’s lots of cool stuff out there!
